Welcome Back

From The Desk of Mr. Jeromy Sumner

August 6, 2007

Dear student and parents,

I am excited to welcome you to your fifth grade year. Fifth grade is an important and special year for you and your family. I feel privileged to be with you and your family during this time in your schooling. I am looking forward to a year filled with learning adventures.

If you were at Bronaugh last year, you should be familiar with some of this information, however there are some changes.

This year is my third year teaching, but my thirteenth year working at a school. I have taught sixth grade for two years and worked as an aide or substitute for 10 years. I graduated from Drury University with a degree in Elementary Education in 2001. I am currently working on my Master’s Degree with an emphasis in Educational Leadership. Anyone who knows me very well knows I love teaching, traveling, roller coasters, PEZ dispensers, learning to speak Russian and generally having a good time! I had an exciting summer – for a second season, I worked at Silver Dollar City; inside Marvel Cave! 57 Degrees and 500 feet below the surface, 600 stairs, 1/2 mile and 7 trips per day with 60 people!

On the first day of school we will be going over the student handbook [applicable to all students] and a procedures handbook specially designed for fifth grade students describing my expectations of students in a variety of situations. Please note that I set my expectations extremely high, and I am sure that in time you will be able to attain or exceed them. We will also be practicing a number of procedures [some of which may have changed since last year] that will be common for you. I am attaching a syllabus with schedule and list of materials that you will need during the year.

If you or your parents have any questions about anything, please call me at school 922-3211.  Or I can be reached any time by email at mr@sumner.net.

Sincerely,

Jeromy Sumner
Fifth Grade Instructor
